Der Michigan Schutzhund Verein (DMSV) held its spring trial on May 19th and 20th. It was an enjoyable event for all of our participants, guests and the Club! In particular, we enjoyed Judge Craig Groh. His professional manner, consistent feedback, helpful critiques and the supportive manner in which he interacted with all the participants, especially those of us who are less experienced, helped things run smoothly. His presence also added to our understanding of Schutzhund, and Craig helped a number of club members re-set their focus for the next phases of their training.
We hosted a significant number of spectators on Saturday including veteran dog trainers and Schutzhund enthusiasts as well as those new to the sport. Over the weekend, participants earned nine (9) new titles on Club dogs including – four (4) BH’s, a SchHA, two (3) SchH1’s with Rick Napolitano from DMSV achieving the Sch3 in style. Brian Harvey from DMSV and Sandy Shepherd and Mark Scarberry of O.G. Buckeye all repeated their Sch3’s with Mark Scarberry winning High in Trial
We did some training on Saturday evening prior to the banquet and enjoyed some teaching moments throughout the trial thanks to being able to observe very experienced handlers Brian Harvey and Regional Director Mark Scarberry manage their dogs throughout the trial and graciously tolerate all of the questions from various participants and spectators. They demonstrated the kind of skill and professionalism we all strive for and that represents the best of Schutzhund so well!
